“Omokri: Political Stability Has Made Nigeria Richer – Don’t Destroy It With Irresponsible Posts”

Abuja – Reno Omokri, political commentator and former presidential aide, has issued a stern warning to Nigerians over inflammatory social media remarks concerning the recent situation in the Republic of Benin.
In a statement on Sunday, Omokri urged citizens to exercise caution and not abuse the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, describing calls for changes of government as “not freedom of speech, but treasonous.”
“It makes great sense to exercise caution when dealing with forces and situations we do not fully understand,” Omokri said, emphasizing that flippant or unpatriotic statements on social media could have real-life consequences.
Highlighting the importance of political stability, Omokri pointed to Nigeria’s recent economic achievements under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including:
A $46.7 billion foreign reserve, ranking fourth-highest in Africa.
Consecutive GDP growth of 4.23% and 3.93% in the last two quarters.
Controlled inflation at 16.05% and a $67 billion expansion of GDP since May 2023.
Increased federal allocations to all states, at least double previous amounts.
A rising trade surplus from ₦1.2 trillion in 2022 to ₦6.9 trillion in 2024.
Strengthening of the Naira, now among Africa’s ten best-performing currencies.
Upgrading Nigeria’s passport from 97th to 88th globally, boosting national prestige.
“These feats were achieved due to political stability in Nigeria, which benefits you and your friends and family,” Omokri stated.
He called on Nigerians to “allow our government to respond to the developments in the Republic of Benin” and to exercise restraint in public statements regarding the democratically elected governments of both Nigeria and its neighbors.
Omokri’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region following a recent coup attempt in Benin, reinforcing the need for measured responses and responsible discourse.
