The Imo State Football Association (FA) has mourned the demise of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, erstwhile President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

This is contained in a release signed by the association’s Chairman, Mr Ifeanyi Dike, made available to newsmen in Owerri, on Friday.

Dike described Iwuanyanwu as a pillar of sports in the state and beyond, and expressed pain that his demise occurred at a time he provided excellent leadership to Ndigbo and was needed most.

He said that the former benefactor of Iwuanyanwu National which metamorphosed into Heartland FC, inscribed Imo in the sands of time with excellent football and career for the players.

He added that the late elder statesman personally played critical roles in the protection of lives and helped hundreds of people build amazing careers in the media, football, engineering, and several other sectors.

“ Imo FA will miss his large heart and indelible interventions in football issues and fatherly wisdom.

“ His commitment to promoting football and sports generally was no doubt excellent and worth emulating as he provided exceptional leadership in all facets yet simultaneously.

“ We are consoled by the fact that Chief Iwuanyanwu distinguished himself in philanthropy, politics, business, engineering, and sports where he helped to promote hundreds of people.

“ While we extend our deepest condolences to the Iwuanyanwu family, Ndigbo, and Nigerians as a whole, we urge everyone to be consoled that the elder statesman did his best and pray for the repose of his soul “, he said. (NAN)
