Anambra: NSCDC Deploys 10,250 Operatives, Warns Against Violence Ahead of Governorship Election

By Paul Ebi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed no fewer than 10,250 operatives to Anambra State ahead of the November 8 governorship election, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, credible, and violence-free exercise.

Announcing the deployment in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, said the operatives would be strategically positioned across the 21 local government areas of the state to provide security at polling units, collation centres, and other critical national assets.

He noted that the deployment forms part of the Corps’ commitment to supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security agencies in safeguarding the electoral process.

> “Our men have been adequately briefed and equipped to operate within the confines of the law. We will not tolerate any act of violence, ballot snatching, vote buying, or any conduct capable of disrupting the election,” Dr. Audi warned.

The NSCDC boss further emphasized that the Corps would work closely with the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and other sister agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to guarantee safety before, during, and after the polls.

He urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and respect the rules governing the electoral process, adding that the NSCDC is fully prepared to deal decisively with any group or individual attempting to foment trouble.

The deployment comes amid heightened preparations for the Anambra governorship election, which has been described as a major test of Nigeria’s democratic resilience and security readiness in the South-East region.
