Apoki Warns Asari Dokubo: “Trump Is Not President Tinubu — Don’t Dare Him”

Prominent Nigerian cleric and social commentator, Dr. Apoki, has cautioned ex-militant leader Asari Dokubo over his recent outburst describing current U.S. President Donald Trump as a “mad man.”
In a viral video circulating on social media, Apoki addressed Asari directly, warning him against making reckless remarks about the American leader, especially given the geopolitical weight of the United States.
> “My brother, Asari Dokubo, if you can call other presidents like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, or Joe Biden a mad man, you don’t call Donald Trump a mad man because crase dey pass crase, madness dey pass madness. You don’t threaten America,” Apoki said, speaking in a mix of English and Pidgin.
The cleric further emphasized that unlike Nigeria, where fiery rhetoric often goes unchecked, the U.S. government takes verbal threats and insults against its leadership very seriously.
> “America is not Nigeria where you threaten to shoot down helicopter,” he warned. “You can’t dare the U.S. the same way you talk here. Trump is not President Tinubu — he’s a different kind of leader with a country that acts fast when provoked.”
Apoki’s comments follow Asari Dokubo’s recent controversial video in which he lambasted President Trump, calling him a “mad man” and accusing him of undermining global peace. The remarks drew swift reactions online, with many Nigerians warning Asari to tread carefully given America’s global influence and Trump’s unpredictable temperament.
Political observers say the exchange underscores how Nigeria’s outspoken political figures often underestimate the diplomatic implications of their comments on international leaders.
Meanwhile, neither Asari Dokubo nor his media aides have issued an official response to Apoki’s warning as of press time.
