Armed Assailants Invade Igbonla Community in Kwara, Abduct Residents During Midnight Raid

Igbonla community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State was thrown into panic in the early hours of Tuesday as armed assailants invaded the area, abducting several residents during a midnight raid.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the quiet community around midnight, shooting sporadically into the air to instill fear and ensure compliance. The assailants reportedly moved from house to house, whisking away residents whose exact number remains unconfirmed as of press time.
A resident who narrowly escaped the attack said, “They came around 12:30 a.m. and started shooting. Many of us fled into the bush. When we returned in the morning, we discovered that some of our people had been taken away.”
Local vigilante groups and security operatives were said to have mobilized to the scene hours later, but the gunmen had already escaped into nearby forests.
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with the spokesperson assuring that efforts are underway to rescue the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The command has deployed tactical teams to the area, and we are working closely with local hunters and vigilantes to track down the criminals,” the police statement read in part.
The invasion adds to growing security concerns across rural communities in Kwara and other parts of Nigeria’s North Central region, where cases of kidnapping and armed attacks have been on the rise in recent months.
Residents are calling on the state and federal governments to intensify security measures and restore confidence in the area.
