Army Slams “Desperate Blackmail Plot” as 6 Division Dismisses Allegations Against 90 Battalion

.......Army Denies Allegations of Power Struggle, Welfare Neglect at 90 Battalion, Describes Claims as “Malicious Blackmail”

By Paul Ebi

The Headquarters of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has dismissed a viral social media publication alleging internal power tussles, welfare neglect, and financial exploitation at the 90 Battalion in Koko, Delta State, describing the claims as malicious falsehood aimed at blackmailing the institution.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the allegations were not only baseless but part of a desperate attempt to malign the command structure of the Battalion.

According to the statement, routine postings and deployments within the Nigerian Army are strictly professional procedures devoid of religious, ethnic, or loyalty considerations. The Division described the insinuation that the Battalion assigns duties based on such sentiments as “malicious and unfounded.”

Danjuma emphasized that the Nigerian Army maintains zero tolerance for corruption, welfare abuse, religious bias, or any form of misconduct within its ranks. He noted that the Commanding Officer of 90 Battalion has remained professional in the discharge of his duties within available resources.

The Army further reminded personnel that there are established channels for addressing administrative grievances, stressing that attempts to bypass these procedures may be interpreted as efforts to blackmail the institution.

“Although the allegations lack merit, any reported infraction—particularly those bordering on extortion—will be duly investigated,” the statement assured.

The 6 Division called on the public to disregard the circulating claims, reiterating its commitment to security and safety in the Niger Delta region. The statement was signed:
