Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday sharply criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of poor judgment and misplaced priorities in governance.
Atiku, in a strongly worded statement, faulted the recent presidential pardon list, which reportedly includes drug traffickers, kidnappers, and other convicted criminals, describing the move as “an act of shame, not wisdom.”
According to the former vice president, the development is yet another example of what he termed a “government that thinks after it acts.” He argued that the decision undermines the justice system and sends a dangerous message about accountability and moral leadership in Nigeria.
> “When a government pardons individuals convicted of serious crimes like drug trafficking and kidnapping, it loses the moral right to talk about fighting crime and corruption. This is not mercy; it is mockery,” Atiku said.
He further warned that such actions could embolden criminal elements and erode public confidence in the rule of law.
Atiku called on the Tinubu administration to reconsider its priorities, insisting that leadership should be anchored on integrity, justice, and the protection of citizens rather than political expediency.
The presidency has yet to officially respond to Atiku’s remarks as of press time.
