Badaru lauds 146 Battalion for safeguarding critical national infrastructure
The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, has commended the battalion for their excellent work in safeguarding critical national infrastructure, particularly the Trans Niger Pipelines (TNP).
Badaru gave the commendation on Thursday, when visited the 146 Battalion (Main) Bonny Island, as part of his visit to the Joint Task Force, South South Operation Delta Safe.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Henshaw Ogubike, Director, Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence.
The minister said that he was on the Island to boost the morale of the officers serving under the unit and commended the battalion for their excellent work in safeguarding critical national infrastructure, particularly the TNP.
“The successes recorded in protecting the TNP in your area of responsibility demonstrates the excellent work you are doing.
“The maximum protection of the pipelines under your watch is commendable, and I urge you to sustain it,” he said.
He also commended the battalion for sustaining operations against economic sabotage, oil theft, and illegal refineries.
“It is gratifying to see that the TNP has no encumbrances, I urge your unit therefore to maintain this achievement,” he added.
Earlier, Lt.-Col. OA Oyewumi, Officer Commanding (OC), of the Battalion briefed the minister on the activities of the unit.
He highlighted the unit’s successes in safeguarding critical national infrastructure, including the TNP in Nembe Creek Trunk Line, while emphasising the importance of protecting the pipeline which transports crude oil daily without third party interference.
He also stressed the need for protecting other key oil and gas installations, as well as intercepting pipeline vandalism attempts.
