The Bayelsa State Government under the Government of Assured Prosperity is making remarkable strides in reshaping the future of marine transportation across the state.
In a major milestone, the newly established State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has taken delivery of its first batch of modern marine transport fleets, signaling the beginning of a new era in safe, efficient, and sustainable waterway transport.
The initiative, driven by the vision of Governor Senator Douye Diri, aims to enhance connectivity among riverine communities, promote commerce, and unlock the vast potential of the state’s blue economy.
Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. (Mrs.) Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin, who received the new vessels, described the development as “a practical demonstration of Governor Diri’s commitment to improving the lives of Bayelsans through innovative infrastructure and economic diversification.”
She emphasized that the ministry is determined to actualize the governor’s dream of transforming Bayelsa into a model coastal economy where waterways become safe and reliable channels for transport, trade, and tourism.
According to her, the arrival of the fleet is just the first phase of a broader plan to modernize marine logistics, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities across the state’s riverine corridors.
Observers have hailed the move as a forward-thinking step that aligns with global trends in blue economy development and positions Bayelsa as a leader in sustainable maritime innovation within Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.
