Bayelsa State Government has reiterated its resolve to strengthen ties with relevant stakeholders in the State and beyond to practice and promote Safe Sanitation Systems to achieve healthy lives and promote a healthy environment in the State.
This was made known by the Chairman of the occasion and Commissioner for Environment , Mr. lselema Gbaranbiri, during the Sanitation Safety Planning Validation Summit held on Thursday, Organized by World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the Bayelsa State Ministry of Environment at Harold Dappa Biriye Conference Hall,Golden Tulip bulbs Resort, Yenagoa.
Mr. Gbaranbiri said, a lot has been lost in the environment to the detriment of human existence and that society should wake up to this reality and make frantic efforts to engender an hygienic environment it once enjoyed, by stopping such activities such as open defecation and ensure proper waste management.
While commending the World Health Organization(WHO) for putting up such a program, he noted that the Diri-led administration is willing to bequeath a better environment for the future generations and enjoined all Stakeholders to work together with the government to achieve a healthy Environment.
According to the Environment Commissioner, “if we, as a people rise against our challenges;even God will support us”.
Present at the summit were firstlady of the state, Dr. (Mrs) Gloria Diri, Commissioner of Water Resources Mr. Kemebradikumo Wariebi, state Coordinator of WHO Dr. Leo Ugheighaele, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment Mr. Waripamo Amatari-Martin, and Dr. Charles Oyibo;Team leader, Sanitation Safety Planning(SSP) Research Team amongst others.
