LAMATA sensitises councils on Purple Line rail project

By Samuel Eugene

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has informed local authorities about the upcoming Purple Line rail project.

The update was shared in a statement posted on LAMATA’s official X handle on Tuesday.

LAMATA, led by its Technical Adviser for Planning, Mr Osa Konyeha, met with key stakeholders and local government officials.

Among the officials present were Mr Johnson Babatunde, Chairman of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA); and Mr Yisa Abiola Jubril, Chairman of Iba LCDA.

Mr Dare Ogunkoya, Secretary of Alimosho Local Government, represented the Chairman, Mr Jelili Adewale Sulaimon.

The purpose of the visit was to inform local authorities about the upcoming Purple Line rail project.

The Purple Line, a 57 km rail route, will connect Redemption Camp to Volkswagen. It will feature 17 stations and integrate with Lagos’s existing rail network.

LAMATA representatives, including Lead Consultant Dr Babatunde Osho, Head of Corporate Communication Kolawole Ojelabi, and Dipo Quadri, conducted the engagement.

The statement revealed that the sensitisation exercise precedes the scoping exercise, a crucial step in the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment before project implementation.

The local authorities pledged their support for the project, recognising its potential to improve the fortunes of many people along the corridor.
