A fierce war of words has erupted among prominent Nigerian political figures, as media mogul Dele Momodu, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, and ex-minister Femi Fani-Kayode engage in a bitter public spat marked by personal attacks, political accusations, and clashing loyalties.
The controversy began after Momodu launched a scathing critique of Omokri and Fani-Kayode, describing them as “shameless friends” and accusing them of lacking credibility in their defense of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He alleged that both men had previously expressed negative views about Tinubu but had since reversed course for political convenience.
Momodu maintained that his only criticism of the president was centered on what he described as “dictatorial tendencies,” insisting he had never made unsubstantiated allegations. He framed his stance as rooted in Nigeria’s democratic struggles, referencing the annulled victory of Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola as a symbol of resistance against authoritarianism.
In a swift and detailed response, Omokri rejected Momodu’s claims, particularly allegations that he had privately sought reconciliation or publicity. He challenged Momodu to provide evidence and emphasized his reputation for keeping records. Omokri also turned the exchange personal, criticizing Momodu’s political relevance and suggesting he return to entertainment, where he built his legacy.
