Concerned Citizens Urge Senator Benson to Address Infrastructure Decay in Bayelsa Central

By Passman Akpos

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State — Growing frustration over the state of infrastructure in Bayelsa Central Senatorial District has sparked a passionate appeal to Senator Konbowei Friday Benson, as residents call for urgent intervention to address years of neglect and mismanagement.

In an open letter signed by Tariladei Osi, popularly known as Uncle Tee, on behalf of a civic group known as Concerned Bayelsans, the group expressed deep concern over the “glaring lack of infrastructure development” across the senatorial district — a region rich in oil resources but impoverished in basic amenities.

According to the statement, Bayelsa Central’s roads are in “deplorable condition,” leaving many communities cut off from essential services such as healthcare and education. The absence of functional roads and bridges, the letter noted, has stifled economic growth and perpetuated isolation among rural communities.

> “Despite the district’s vast oil wealth, residents continue to suffer from underdevelopment,” the letter stated. “Funds allocated for development projects are often misappropriated, leaving behind a trail of abandoned and incomplete projects.”

The group accused local authorities and representatives of prioritizing personal interests over public welfare, a trend they say has eroded public trust and deepened poverty in the area.

Osi called on Senator Benson to “take immediate action” by prioritizing transparency, accountability, and effective oversight in project implementation. He emphasized that meaningful development could only be achieved through honest governance and responsible stewardship of public resources.

> “The district deserves better infrastructure, and its people deserve to benefit from its rich resources,” Osi wrote. “Transparency and accountability are essential to restoring trust and ensuring the district’s progress.”

The statement concluded with a call for unity among Bayelsans to demand better representation and sustainable development initiatives that reflect the region’s potential and promise.

Efforts to reach Senator Benson’s office for comments on the allegations were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
