A fatal accident on the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway has resulted in the death of two students from Borno State University (BOSU).
The crash, which occurred in the Jimtilo area, involved a Dangote truck that reportedly lost control and crashed into a bus carrying BOSU students.

Abba A. Massa, the university’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating that it happened on Wednesday as students were heading home after their exams.
Among the victims were a final-year male student and a second-year female student, while several others were injured and rushed to two hospitals in Maiduguri—Umaru Shehu Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital—for immediate medical care.
Following the tragedy, BOSU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babagana Gutti, alongside Borno State’s Head of Service, Barrister Malam Fannami, and other university officials, visited the injured students in the hospitals.
Demonstrating solidarity, a group of BOSU students visited the hospitals to comfort their injured peers and donate blood.
The entire university community is mourning the loss of the two students, whose funeral would take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
