Thunder echoed across Faskari on Wednesday—not from the heavens, but from the Nigerian Army’s bold demonstration of firepower as it concluded the 2025 Exercise MUGUN BUGU IV, a training mission deliberately held in one of the region’s most dangerous bandit enclaves.
The Grand Stand in Angwan Machika transformed into a theatre of military precision, tactical brilliance, and national defiance.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Training and Doctrine Command boss Major General Peter Malla described the exercise as a living proof of the Army’s sharpened claws and renewed commitment to defending the country from those who threaten its peace.He said the display was the culmination of weeks of relentless planning—designed not just to train but to simulate war.
Governor Umar Dikko Radda did not hide his relief and gratitude. Faskari has long been battered by banditry, but the governor said the Army’s presence delivered a clear message: “The days of these criminals are numbered.” He applauded the COAS for prioritizing the LGA despite being only months into his role.
Commander NATRAC, Major General Abubakar Garba Haruna, revealed that the exercise was not merely symbolic—troops of 17 Brigade struck bandit hideouts during the operation, dealing “a decisive blow” to their networks. He emphasized that the name MUGUN BUGU—“deadly strike”—was not chosen lightly; it is a promise and a warning.
The finale included cultural performances, strategic souvenir presentations, and a rigorous After Action Review to capture key operational lessons. The night closed with a blazing campfire—celebrating the resilience of the troops and signaling a renewed momentum in the fight against insecurity.
