Diri Orders Swift Completion of NYSC Female Hostel, Allocates Farmland to Corps Members

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has issued a firm directive for the immediate completion of the female hostel project at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare and safety of corps members serving in the state.
Governor Diri gave the order on Tuesday when the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle Rafiu, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Yenagoa.
The governor instructed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to fast-track the construction and ensure the facility is delivered without further delay. He also mandated the Commissioners for Agriculture, and Lands & Housing to immediately make land available to the NYSC for agricultural projects, saying corps members should have opportunities for practical training and empowerment while serving in the state.
“Our youths deserve the best support structures we can provide. Completing the hostel and giving NYSC access to farmland will strengthen their safety, productivity, and overall experience in Bayelsa,” Governor Diri said.
Earlier, the NYSC DG, Brig.-Gen. Rafiu, expressed gratitude to the governor for the “consistent and tangible support” given to the scheme, noting that Bayelsa has remained one of the states with the most responsive backing for NYSC operations and welfare.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Abraham Ingobere, members of the State Executive Council, and other senior government officials.
The visit marks another step in ongoing collaboration between the Bayelsa State Government and the NYSC to improve infrastructure, welfare, and capacity-building opportunities for corps members in the state.
