Diri Presents N998.37bn “Assured Prosperity II” Budget for 2026 to Bayelsa Assembly

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Thursday presented a budget proposal of ₦998,371,313,943.04 for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly in Yenagoa.
Tagged “Assured Prosperity II,” the proposed budget is aimed at consolidating the administration’s developmental strides with a strong focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other key sectors of the state’s economy.
According to the breakdown, ₦645.26 billion (64.6%) is earmarked for capital expenditure, while ₦353.11 billion (35.4%) is allocated for recurrent expenditure.
The Ministries of Works and Education received the highest allocations of ₦298.68 billion and ₦75.18 billion, respectively — reflecting the government’s commitment to infrastructure expansion and human capital development.
Governor Diri, in his budget presentation, said the proposal aligns with his administration’s fiscal discipline and strategic planning for sustainable development.
> “Mr. Speaker, Honourable Members, the 2026 Appropriation Bill, when passed into law, will further demonstrate that under my leadership, we have continued to allocate scarce resources prudently in line with our well-structured financial plan for the collective well-being of the state,” Governor Diri stated.
He emphasized that the Assured Prosperity II budget builds on the successes of his first term, prioritizing people-centered projects and continuity in governance.
In his response, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, commended Governor Diri for the infrastructural transformation witnessed across the state under the “Government of Assured Prosperity.”
Ingobere assured that the House would ensure a speedy and diligent passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to enable the government sustain its development agenda.
The 2026 budget presentation marks another phase in Governor Diri’s drive to entrench fiscal responsibility and inclusive growth across Bayelsa State.
