Abuja, Nigeria — Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has applauded the recent rescue of abducted victims in Kwara and Niger states but cautioned that security agencies must not ease their efforts until every missing child is safely reunited with their families.
In a statement on Tuesday, Obi described the rescue of 38 abducted worshippers from the Eruku Church attack in Kwara State, alongside the escape of about 50 students from a Catholic private school in Niger State, as “refreshing developments” that offer hope amid rising insecurity.
“I would like to commend the security agencies and all those who played a role in this refreshing development,” he said.
However, the former Anambra governor stressed that the ordeal is far from over, noting that families of victims continue to endure “deeply agonising” uncertainty.
“It is important to emphasise that there must be no relenting or relaxing until all the children are reunited with their families,” Obi said.
He urged security agencies nationwide, as well as school authorities, to adopt proactive measures to prevent further attacks and ensure better protection for students.
“There is a pressing need for both security agencies and school authorities nationwide to remain proactive and ensure that adequate security measures are put in place to frustrate the plans of criminals,” he added.
Obi reiterated that the safety of citizens, especially children, must remain a national priority as cases of mass abductions continue to unsettle communities across the country.
