“Drama at Wadata Plaza: PDP Convenes Emergency Meeting Amid Expulsion Claims and Counterclaims”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is heading into a turbulent but decisive day as the party convenes an emergency joint meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BOT) at the National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The meeting, announced by the National Secretary, Sen. Samuel N. Anyanwu, is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. for BOT members and 2:00 p.m. for NEC members, with attendance described as “very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed.” Party insiders say the gathering may be one of the most consequential in recent years.
Makinde: Ibadan Convention a Turning Point
Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde hailed the recently concluded PDP Elective National Convention, which held in the ancient city, as “historic” and transformational.
“This convention will go down in history as the convention that brought the turnaround to our great party,” Makinde declared, praising delegates and leaders for ensuring a peaceful and successful process.
Makinde reaffirmed the PDP’s traditional mantra: “PDP… power to the people!”, stressing the party’s commitment to inclusion, renewal, and grassroots empowerment as it positions itself for future electoral battles.
Suspended Members Fire Back: ‘Fake Expulsion, Political Comedy’
Amid the celebration, controversy erupted after reports circulated on social media claiming that some party officials, including South-South Zonal Secretary Hon. George Turnah, MON, had been expelled “at a social gathering in Ibadan.”
Turnah swiftly denied the claims, describing them as “frivolous, laughable, and fake.”
In a statement from his media aide Kelvin Loveday Egbo, the Bayelsa PDP leader said no valid National Convention has taken place since 2022, and therefore no disciplinary action emerging from Ibadan could be legitimate.
“PDP’s constitution outlines clear offences and due disciplinary procedures. None of those processes were triggered. I remain a bonafide official of this party,” he said.
Turnah reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the FCT Minister and PDP National Leader, H.E. Nyesom Wike, adding that the claims were the work of “political opportunists desperate for attention.”
He urged Nigerians to “ignore the rubbish and focus on genuine party activities.”

As tension builds ahead of tomorrow’s NEC meeting, Nigerians have flooded social platforms with reactions — many mocking the party’s internal rifts.
Some questioned the legitimacy of the meeting itself:

Others mocked the expected attendance:
> “Most of them go wear Tinubu cap.”
Another commenter lamented the PDP’s dramatic decline over the years:

Supporters of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, appeared ready for political fireworks:

Observers say tomorrow’s emergency NEC/BOT meeting will likely expose the PDP’s deepening factionalism, especially between the group loyal to Makinde and those aligned with Wike.
With accusations of illegal conventions, claims of fake expulsions, rising grassroots frustrations, and open ridicule from the public, analysts believe the outcome of the Abuja meeting could determine whether the PDP moves toward healing — or fractures further.
For now, all eyes remain on Wadata Plaza.
