In a nation sustained by oil, there exists a cruel paradox—those who give the most suffer the worst.
From Ogbogolo to Egbemo-Angalabiri, the story is the same: wealth beneath the soil, but misery above it.
The recent ordeal of global music icon Burna Boy, stranded in his ancestral community due to impassable roads, is not just a viral moment—it is a national embarrassment. It is a loud, painful reminder that the Niger Delta, the economic heartbeat of Nigeria, remains abandoned, neglected, and betrayed.
But beyond Ogbogolo lies a deeper, quieter suffering.
In Egbemo-Angalabiri, in Ekeremor Local Government Area, the reality is even more devastating. There are no roads—only muddy paths that isolate families from the rest of the country. There are no functional healthcare systems—only helplessness in the face of sickness. The youth, surrounded by wealth they cannot touch, wander in joblessness and despair. Poverty is not just present—it is entrenched, generational, and cruelly ironic.
Yet, for decades, this same land has fed the Nigerian state.
This is not just neglect. This is injustice.
We call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to confront this reality with urgency and sincerity. The suffering of oil-producing communities is no longer a local issue—it is a moral crisis and a stain on Nigeria’s conscience. Development cannot continue to bypass the very people whose resources sustain the nation.
To the Niger Delta Development Commission, this is a moment of reckoning. The mandate is clear, the need is urgent, and the excuses have expired. Roads must be built. Hospitals must function. Jobs must be created. The people must feel, see, and live the benefits of what lies beneath their soil.
Anything less is failure.
We also call on the international community to pay attention. The Niger Delta is not just an oil region—it is a human story of exploitation, resilience, and forgotten promises. Multinational stakeholders and global institutions must demand accountability and support sustainable, people-centered development.
How long will communities remain cut off from civilization while pipelines run through their backyards?
How long will children grow up in poverty on land that fuels billions?
How long will silence cover suffering?
The cries from Egbemo-Angalabiri and countless other communities are not whispers anymore—they are thunder. And that thunder demands action.
Nigeria must choose: continue the cycle of neglect, or finally honor the people who have given everything.
Because no nation can truly prosper while its source of wealth lives in pain.
