Education sector: Hon. Emelah inaugurates 16 Local Board members in Bayelsa State

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dr. Emelah Gentle, has inaugurated new Board Members across the Eight Local Government Areas for the betterment of the education sector.
This was disclosed in a meeting held in Conference Hall of the Honourable Commissioner, at Education House, Ovom, on Tuesday in Yenagoa.
The Commissioner urged the new Board members to be innovative and creative in assisting the government to change the narrative in the education sector, taking into consideration that they will be the orbiters of first hand information at the local government level.
However Hon. Emelah informed the newly inaugurated members of the state’s plan to embark on a statewide inspection exercise, narrating that the exercise would last for two years aimed to assess the state of schools in the state and make adequate plans to remedy them and that it would need the cooperation of the local government education authorities to make the exercise a success.
Tarakiri voice newspaper leant that, the Commissioner also intimated the new appointees of the problem of lack of teachers in the state, a problem he attributed to the chairmen and the authorities heads who took self interests over the interest of schools in employment opportunities.
“Most schools have more of non- academic staff than real teachers”, he said.
He admonished the new heads to prioritise employment opportunities when any windows of employment opens, because according to him the legacies you leave behind matters alot. He however assured them of the ministry’s readiness to assist them in any challenge that they will face.
Complimenting the Commissioner, the Executive Secretary of the State University Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Chief Okubonanabo Victor, charged the appointees to always be at their duty posts and not to make yenagoa their offices.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the Chairman of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Education Authority, Sir Asamaowei Nimiye Emmanuel, was thankful to the Governor on their appointment and promise to work in tandem with the ministry’s strides towards the improvement of education in the State. He also commends the Commissioner on his various developmental strides and promise to follow his steps.
Among those with the Commissioner were the Executive Secretary State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Chief Victor Okubonanabo and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr. Christopher Ewhrudjakpor.
