Enough is Enough! Obi Cubana Warns: No Peace for Igbo Until Nnamdi Kanu is Free”

Nigeria’s worsening security climate and political tensions have triggered renewed calls for de-escalation and urgent government action, with prominent businessman and philanthropist, Obi Cubana, issuing a passionate public appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to secure the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a strongly worded message, Obi Cubana expressed deep concern over the series of tragedies that have unfolded in recent days, describing the atmosphere across the country as “perplexing and downcast.”
He cited the United States’ recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, the abduction of worshippers in Kwara State, the killing of a Brigadier General, the sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu, and the most recent kidnapping of over 50 Catholic students in Niger State as signs of a nation “in distress.”
According to him, these events have heightened anxiety nationwide, leaving “most reasonable people deeply worried.”
Obi Cubana revealed that in the last three months, he—alongside other respected Nigerians—held key discussions with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives as well as the President’s son, focusing on insecurity, the burden of new taxes on businesses, economic reforms, and the search for a political solution that could secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
He emphasized that “numerous efforts” were ongoing behind the scenes to address these critical concerns, particularly the push for Kanu’s freedom.
In a direct message to the Igbo community, he warned that peace in the region would remain elusive until the IPOB leader is released.“No Igbo man or woman will have peace if MNK does not regain his freedom, and Ala Igbo will NEVER be the same again,” he said.
Calling for unity and restraint, he stressed that this was “no time to divide ourselves,” noting that tempers were high and emotions raw.“Words are being exchanged, but one thing is also clear: we all want MNK out, and we will NEVER rest till MNK is out,” he added.
Obi Cubana appealed directly to President Tinubu to “heed the cry of our people,” urging him to intervene and facilitate Kanu’s release as a step toward national healing and stability.
He reaffirmed commitment to building a Nigeria where all citizens—regardless of ethnicity, religion, or culture—can live and operate freely without fear.“Constructive agitations remain the bedrock upon which great societies are built, but solutions will only be found on the negotiation table,” he said.
