Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, on Saturday matriculated 15, 000 students into its National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) and part time programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Dr Hauwa Muhammad, Acting Rector of the institution, who presided over the matriculation ceremony, said that students met the requirements for admission into the ND or HND programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.
“We welcome you all to this peaceful community where we mould students in both learning and character,” she said.
Muhammad urged the students to be law abiding, shun all forms of social vices including examination malpractice, adding that anyone caught would face appropriate sanction from the school management.
“It may interest you to note that in the last academic session, no fewer that 100 persons who engaged in examination malpractices were expelled from the polytechnic and such disciplinary action will continue to be administered,” she said.
The acting rector, therefore, challenged the students to take their academics seriously in order to justify the huge investments by their parents and guardians.
Muhammad said that the Polytechnic management under her leadership would continue to improve teaching, research and learning.
“In our efforts to maintain the quality of our academic programmes, we have streamlined the number of students intake with the available infrastructure and resources.
“In the same vein, we have commenced new programmes such as Railway Engineering Technology, Cement Technology, Welding and so on,” she said.
She promised to continue to prioritise staff and students welfare, and complete all projects started by her management.
“We are going to also be focusing on skills acquisition so that when our students graduate, they will not depend on white collar jobs,” she said.
In his remarks, Dr Munir Ahmed, Registrar of the Polytechnic, said the new 15,000 were matriculated into the various programmes and different school in the institution for the 2024/2025 academic session.
He listed the schools to include School of Applied Sciences, School of Business Studies, School of Environmental Studies, School of Engineering Technology, School of General Studies, School of Information Technology and School of Technical and Vocational Education.
He assured that all staff members would continue to cooperate with the Acting Rector in order to achieve the goals set out for the institution.
Mr Jimoh Temitope, one of the new students, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), thanked the school management for the opportunity given to him to study in the institution.
He promised to be of good behaviour and study hard to attain academic excellence.
