The Federal Government has received 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine from India.
The chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19 and Secretary to the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, confirmed this at the PTF’s national briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said: ‘’As you know, Nigeria received 3.94 million doses of the Covid-19 Oxford/Astrazeneca vaccines on march 2, 2021.
‘’These vaccines represented the first tranche of approximately 16 million doses allocated to Nigeria through the COVAX facility, aimed at immunizing an initial 20 percent of the population.
Other vaccines are also expected from the African union vaccine procurement task force (AVATT).
‘’We will also receive approximately 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccines donated by the Indian government in Nigeria. This will further increase the number of Nigerians to be vaccinated by around 50,000.
‘’The PTF through the Federal Ministry of (FMoH) and the National Agency for the Development of the Primary Health Center(NPHCDA) has given priority to the initial shipment of vaccines to cover primary medical personal line, strategic leadership and people over 50 across the country.
‘’The majority of subnational entities have already received their allocation and administration is progressing.
‘’As of April 5, 2021, 963,802 people in Nigeria had received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
‘’The overriding objective is to vaccinate 70% of the Nigerian population between 2021 and 2022.’’ The Nigerian news agency (NAN) reports that the vaccines were then presented to PTFs by the Acting Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Velagaleti Surendra
