by Peregba Jerry

The Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has called on the public, especially those who have complaints against the police to submit their memoranda to the State Special Committee on Security, SWAT and Human Rights.

The deputy governor, who is the Chairman of the Committee has directed that all such memoranda should be submitted to the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice from Tuesday (Today) the 28th of September to Thursday 30th, September, 2021.

A statement by his media aide, Mr Doubara Atasi, explained that the directive is an addition to the earlier pronouncement made by Governor Douye Diri last Sunday during a Special Thanksgiving Service at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa.

According to the statement, apart from stating the venue for submission of the memoranda, there was need to inform the public that the new deadline for submission is now Thursday this week and not Friday as earlier announced because of the October 1st holiday.

It will be recalled that the Governor had directed the committee to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of one Goodluck Oviekeme, a 27-year old youth of Biogbolo Community, who was in police custody.

Consequently, the Deputy Governor is calling on the public to lodge their written complaints bordering on police brutality with the Committee between 10:00AM and 4:00pm from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
