The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has honoured a brilliant young Bayelsan, Keme Precious Numa, as the Best Overall Male Candidate in Public Schools across Nigeria for the 2024 examination year — a feat that has placed Bayelsa State once again in the national academic spotlight.
The recognition was conferred during the 63rd Annual Meeting of WAEC held in Umuahia, Abia State, where Keme, a student of Ido Comprehensive Secondary School, Egbemo-Angalabiri, in Ekeremor Local Government Area, received a ₦500,000 cash award for his outstanding academic performance.
Keme’s WAEC result speaks volumes:
A1 in English Language
A1 in General Mathematics
A1 in Physics
A1 in Chemistry
A1 in Biology
A1 in three other subjects
And a lone B2 in Agricultural Science
This sterling outcome places him among the highest-scoring candidates in the nation.
Representing the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Simon Peter Okene, described Keme’s achievement as a “testament to the resilience and brilliance that Bayelsa students continue to demonstrate despite all odds.”
Keme was accompanied at the ceremony by a proud support circle — his Principal, Mrs. Jane Wareyai Emomotimi, his mother Mrs. Timi Numa, and his grandfather, Chief Ebiama Ofonibenhen, among others who celebrated the historic moment.
The honour marks not just a personal victory for the young scholar but a morale boost for the education sector in Bayelsa State, reaffirming its growing reputation for nurturing exceptional talent.
