Edo gov’t dissolves governing body of Ambrose Alli University, appoints Prof. Osarhieme Benson Osadolor as acting Chancellor

The Edo state government has dissolved the governing council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and subsequently announced the appointment of Prof. Osarhieme Benson Osadolor, as vice Chancellor of the institution on an acting capacity.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the government, Osarodion Ogie, directed Prof. Osadolor to immediately take over the administrative task of the university as the appointment is with immediate effect.
Ogie stated that this was in line with the university’s Special Intervention Provisions Law 2021, stressing that it is also in the interest of the school, students and the people of Edo state in general.
The statement reads in part, “In accordance with the Ambrose Alli University (Special Intervention Powers) Provisions Law 2021, the Edo state government hereby announces the dissolution of Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and appointment of Prof. Osarhieme Benson Osadolor as Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.
“The directives takes immediate effect.
“The Ambrose Alli University (Special Intervention Powers) Provisions Law, 2021 empowers the Visitor of the University to intervene in the ongoing impasse at the institution in the interest of school, students and the generality of Edo people.
He said, “For some time now, the institution has been brought to its knee by mismanagement and maladministration, forcing the students to remain at home, with the attendant adverse effect on their academic pursuits. This has also grounded activities in the university community, with the institution derailing from the visions of its founders.
“Fulbright scholar, Prof. Osadolor is to immediately take over the administration of the institution towards revamping and repositioning it to become a forward-looking, innovative and technology-driven institution of higher learning.
“Prof. Osadolor, a professor of History at the university of Benin, is trained at the university of Hamburg, Germany and university of Ibadan, Nigeria.
“Prof. Osadolor is also a Visiting Research Fellow in African History at the university of Hamburg, Germany and an academic consultant to the art history museum in Vienna, Austria.
