The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, has celebrated three of its distinguished academics—Prof. Samuel David Olusegun, Dr. Modestus O. Okwu, and Dr. Elemike Elias—following their inclusion in the world’s top two per cent of scientists in the prestigious Stanford University–Elsevier Global Ranking of Scientists (2025 edition).
The recognition, which is based on standardized citation metrics, identifies scientists whose research outputs and impact rank among the highest globally across various disciplines.
In a statement issued by the university’s management, FUPRE described the achievement as a testament to the institution’s growing reputation for academic excellence and impactful research in science, engineering, and technology.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, congratulated the scholars for bringing global recognition to FUPRE and Nigeria’s academic community. He noted that their achievements reflect the university’s commitment to producing world-class research and fostering innovation that addresses energy and environmental challenges.
He said, “This honour is not only for the individuals but also for FUPRE as an institution. It validates our efforts in supporting cutting-edge research and building a world-class university that contributes meaningfully to scientific advancement.”
The three honourees, drawn from the university’s faculties of science and engineering, have published extensively in reputable international journals, contributing significantly to fields such as materials science, chemistry, and environmental technology.
FUPRE joins other leading global institutions celebrating their researchers’ inclusion in the 2025 Stanford–Elsevier list, which is widely regarded as one of the most credible assessments of scientific impact and global research influence.
