Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated two major housing estates in an effort by the state to ensure affordable and sustainable urban living.
The estates are Olaleye New Town Estate at Iponri and Megamound Greater Lagos Apartments at Obele-Oniwala, Surulere.
At the inauguration on Monday, Sanwo-Olu described the projects as a fulfilment of the state government’s vision for a greater Lagos rooted in inclusivity, modern infrastructure and community development.
“The joy and peace that come with finally owning a house are beyond words.
“That is why providing decent housing is a top priority for this administration.
”It is about ensuring dignity, security and a brighter future for every Lagosian,” he said.
The governor said that the Megamound Greater Lagos Apartments, spanned 3.7 hectares and comprised 21 blocks of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments, offering a total of 378 units.
The estate, developed under the Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC), aligns with the state’s 2020 mission to deliver modern and affordable housing solutions to its growing population,” he said
Tarakirivoice reports that the Olaleye New Town Estate at Iponri was built through a partnership between LBIC and Exquisite Homes Ltd.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the estate sits on over 7,000 square metres and offers 64 four-bedroom maisonettes, with each unit equipped with modern amenities and designed to blend luxury with comfort and security.
Sanwo-Olu said that beyond providing shelter, the projects had created jobs, supported local businesses and boosted economic activity in the surrounding areas.
“These projects have done more than just providing homes; they have empowered local communities and contributed to our vibrant economy.
“We have also ensured the integration of green spaces and sustainable practices to make them future-ready,” he said.
The governor thanked architects, engineers, construction workers, and the residents for their contributions and support during the execution of the projects.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to its THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritised housing, urban renewal and inclusive growth.
He called on prospective homeowners to nurture the spirit of community.
“Let us join forces to take care of these estates and set a positive example for others. Together, we can continue to create not just houses, but homes where every Lagosian can thrive.
“The inauguration of both estates stands as a testament to the state’s drive to build resilient, inclusive and future-ready communities in pursuit of a greater Lagos,” the governor said.
