The Delta government has approved the programme aimed at rehabilitating victims of Human trafficking from the state.
Miss Orode Uduaghan, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development, revealed this on Thursday, when some executives of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) paid her a courtesy visit.
She said programme involved training and equipping teenage girls in secondary schools with entrepreneurial skills in 2025.
According to her, 2024 was a pilot phase of what the ministry proposed.
” However, the current year would experience greater impartation on the vulnerable” she said.
She said Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori had also approved collaboration with the Junior Achievement Nigeria, an international organisation.
“The organisation is to train younger girls on entrepreneurial skills.
“In 2024, we launched a Grant Scheme in spite of the year being a tough one,” she said.
She said about 1,600 petty traders across the 25 local government areas were supported with grants of about N100,000 each.
“While about 1,826 artisans were supported with N150,000 grants each.
” Also, 1,800 young ladies, between the ages of 18 and 35, were supported,” she said.
She appealed for positive partnership with the media to project the policies and programmes of the state government
Chairman of NUJ-Asaba Correspondents Chapel, Mr Ifeanyi Olannye, said the visit would strengthen the existing partnership with the ministry.
