“‘Grace Did It!’ — Pastor Olayinka Defies Odds to Earn MSc 14 Years After BSc”

By Passman Akpos

In an inspiring testament to perseverance and faith, Pastor Olukanni Excellence Olayinka has officially convocated with a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan—14 years after completing his first degree.

Reflecting on the journey, Pastor Olayinka described the achievement as a “pure act of God’s faithfulness,” noting that the road to graduation was marked by intense pressure, health challenges, job-related conflicts, and periods of deep discouragement.

“There was a time it genuinely felt like I would drop out,” he said. “I shuttled between Lagos and Ibadan countless times, often arriving tired but determined. I even fell ill during exams. It became clear that this journey was never by strength or might.”

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to his supervisor, Prof. Adetola Adeoti, whom he described as “God-sent,” as well as Dr. Osanyinlusi Dele, Sis. Deola Adeagbo, Bro. Omotoso Opeyemi, Sis. Oredipe Tolulope MichaelOyediji, and Sis. Akinmodun Oluwakemi Adewole, all of whom he said provided crucial support at critical moments.

He also paid tribute to Dr. Mrs. Obi-Egbedi, whom he has known since his undergraduate days, calling her “a blessing,” and extended gratitude to his classmates and project partners, especially Mrs. Rita Babatunde and Michael Akinsuyi, acknowledging their encouragement and teamwork.

Pastor Olayinka reserved special praise for his family—his wife, daughter, and loved ones—describing them as pillars who stood by him through the toughest seasons.

Recounting what kept him going, he emphasized the role of divine help:“It was purely by the grace of God. Grace that carried me when I had no strength. Grace that opened doors when the road looked blocked. Grace that gave time and chances I couldn’t have created for myself.”

Offering words of encouragement to others navigating difficult academic or life challenges, he urged them not to give up:“Sometimes, the path to your next level is not smooth, but God’s timing makes everything beautiful. When grace rests on you, the impossible becomes possible.”

Celebrating his milestone with gratitude, Pastor Olayinka concluded with a message of hope:“If He did it for me, He can do it for you. Keep going. God’s grace is sufficient.”
