How insecurity, corruption hindering economic stability in Nigeria – Saheed Timehin

Dr Saheed Timehin, an Associate Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at Lagos State University, has said that insecurity and corruption are hindering socio-economic stability of the country.

Timehin, made this known on Saturday while delivering a lecture during the 48th Annual National Conference of Majlis Ansarullah Ahmadiyyah Muslim Elders Association (MAAN) in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, the Association was created to promote peace, foster brotherhood, development leadership values, social responsibility as well as educational and humanitarian services.

The theme of the event is” Making Living Worthwhile For All: Islamic Solutions to Economic and Security Challenges.

He said, the  increasing rate of crime is stalling economic activities.

” A secure environment creates a foundation for sustainable economic growth, attract investment, enhance productivity and foster social cohesion.

” While Insecurity hampers economic progress, leading to capital plight, reduced productivity” he said.

He said:” Islam attempts to create an attitude whereby governments and the wealthy individuals are constantly reminded that it is in their interest to establish an equitable economic system.

”Where justice and fairness is a major truest”..

The don also canvased for the establishment of special courts to try corruption cases in the country.

He said  corruption remains a phenomena that requires collective efforts to address for Nigeria progress economically.

He called for reforms in the legal and regulatory framework to enhance existing anti-corruption laws to close the loopholes.

Timehin therefore advised leaders to lead by example and promote peace and security in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessins of Allah be with Him).

Also speaking, Mr Abdulazeez Alatoye, the National Amir of the association, underscored the importance of the Muslim ummah to reflect on their deeds and support humanity.

Alatoye also reminded participants to fear Allah and rededicate their time and resources in the service of mankind.

“Divine  intervention  is needed in these trying times of our nation,” he said.
