“If I go missing, hold Alaibiye Yei responsible” — Woman in Yenagoa issues public warning

YENAGOA, Bayelsa State — A woman who says she is in Yenagoa has publicly accused a man named Alaibiye Yei of threatening her safety and warned that she will hold him responsible if she disappears.
In a message circulating online, Benedicta Dinini Isaac wrote that her family in Delta, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa should blame Alaibiye Yei should anything happen to her. The post includes the allegation that Alaibiye had publicly said “his guys will follow me up.” Benedicta’s message reads in part:
> “Abeg my family for Delta, Akwaibom and Bayelsa. Incase I go missing hold Alaibiye Yei responsible. He publicly said his guys will follow me up.Oya oga na Yenagoa i dey. U fit start tonight.” — Benedicta Dinini Isaac
Benedicta’s warning has prompted concern among social-media users in the Niger Delta region, where allegations of intimidation and threats are sometimes amplified by long-standing local tensions.
The claims in the post have not been independently verified. There was no immediate response from Alaibiye Yei when this report was prepared, and attempts to reach him for comment were unsuccessful. It is unclear where or when the original alleged statement by Alaibiye — that “his guys will follow” Benedicta — was made.
Local human-rights observers say that public accusations of threats should be taken seriously. A spokesperson for a Yenagoa-based civil-society group said such claims should prompt prompt investigation by security agencies so the person making the allegation can be protected while any claims are verified.
Benedicta’s post did not state whether she had reported the alleged threat to the police. The Bayelsa State Police Command did not immediately comment when contacted about the post.
