INEC uploads over 86% of results in Edo governorship election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made significant progress in uploading results from the ongoing Edo State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
So far, 3,902 out of the 4,519 results have been uploaded, representing 86.35% completion.
Speaking with Arise Television on Saturday, Anugbum Onuoha, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, assured that the commission would electronically transmit the election results.
He emphasized that only network challenges could potentially delay the process.
INEC has implemented contingency measures, including the deployment of backup devices, to ensure a smooth process.
“We have deployed 4,622 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices to the various local governments, and we have 660 additional backup units,” Onuoha stated.
The BVAS system is designed to verify voter identities and accurately record the number of voters at each polling unit. Onuoha explained, “After accreditation, voting begins, and the results will then be uploaded to the IReV.”
He assured the public, “We are conducting an election that will be a source of pride, and we are determined to deliver transparent results.”
The governorship election, held on Saturday across the 18 local government areas of the state.
