“Kanu’s Wife Fires Warning: ‘Act Professionally or Face My Stress!’ After Prison Transfer Fiasco”

By Passman Akpos

Abuja, Nigeria — Nnamdi Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, has voiced sharp criticism over how information about her husband’s transfer to the Sokoto correctional facility was handled, describing the process as unprofessional and disrespectful.

In a post on X, Okwu-Kanu revealed she only learned about the transfer “about three hours ago,” expressing frustration that those who visited the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader on Friday did not brief her before the news became public.

“Those who went to see him today did not give me any update on his transfer. Rather, they ran to social media to broadcast it,” she wrote.

Though she did not name anyone specifically, Okwu-Kanu issued a stern warning, urging visitors to her husband to act “in a civilised and professional manner.” She threatened to personally intervene against anyone who failed to comply.

“If you all do not sit up and behave in a civilised and professional manner, I will stress you with my ‘stress’… Enough of your theatrics! Be warned!” she added.

Her statement followed a social media post by Kanu’s former lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, who announced that the IPOB leader had been moved from the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja to Sokoto prison. Ejimakor described the relocation as a move that places Kanu further away from his family and legal team.

Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, following convictions on multiple terrorism-related charges. Responding to the judgment, Okwu-Kanu accused the court of following a predetermined script, arguing that the judge erred by instructing her husband to present a defence without properly citing the legal provisions that guide the trial.

The latest developments have sparked renewed concern among Kanu’s supporters about his welfare and access to legal counsel while in custody.
