Lagos Announces 8-Month Partial Closure of Lekki–Ajah Corridor for Major Rehabilitation Works

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to partially close and divert traffic along the Lekki–Ajah corridor for eight months to allow for major rehabilitation works aimed at improving road quality and easing congestion.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that the rehabilitation will take place from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Osiyemi said the project, which has already commenced preliminary works, will be executed in two phases to minimise traffic disruptions along the busy corridor.
> “Work will be done in seven sections. During construction, one lane will be closed while motorists use the second. When the closed lane is completed, work will shift to the other. Motorists heading toward Lekki/Ajah will have continuous access,” he stated.
The commissioner further noted that motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to a single lane while repairs are ongoing on the other side. Upon completion of the first lane, construction will move to the second, ensuring that movement toward Ajah continues throughout the project.
While assuring that efforts will be made to minimise inconvenience, Osiyemi warned that some sections of the road will experience partial closures during the rehabilitation period.
He appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management personnel throughout the duration of the project.
> “These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring smoother traffic flow across the state,” Osiyemi said.
The Lekki–Ajah corridor, one of Lagos’ busiest routes, serves thousands of commuters daily. The rehabilitation project is expected to significantly enhance mobility and reduce travel time once completed.
