Leaked WhatsApp Messages Allegedly Expose Group Planning Coordinated Attacks to Discredit Governor Alex Otti’s Administration

A series of leaked WhatsApp messages circulating on social media have allegedly revealed a coordinated effort by a group of political operatives to discredit the administration of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
According to screenshots shared by anonymous sources, the group—comprising individuals said to be affiliated with opposition interests—allegedly discussed strategies to launch a social media and traditional media campaign aimed at portraying the Otti administration as ineffective and corrupt.
In the messages, participants reportedly outlined plans to create and circulate misleading narratives, sponsor negative commentaries, and amplify unverified claims about ongoing government projects. One message allegedly urged members to “flood Facebook and WhatsApp groups with coordinated posts” to “turn public opinion against Otti before the next election season.”
While the authenticity of the messages has not been independently verified, their content has sparked public outrage, with some citizens calling for a thorough investigation into what they describe as “a deliberate attempt to mislead the people of Abia State.”
When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Otti, Kazie Uko, said the administration was aware of the development but remained focused on delivering good governance.
> “The Otti administration will not be distracted by smear campaigns or misinformation,” Uko stated. “Our record of transparency and performance speaks for itself.”
As of press time, no individual named in the leaked chats had publicly denied involvement, and law enforcement agencies have not yet commented on whether an investigation will be launched.
Observers say the incident underscores the growing role of social media manipulation in Nigeria’s political landscape, where misinformation campaigns are increasingly used to sway public opinion and undermine opponents.
