MURDER OF SP BAKO: Court Remands Ekpeye Supreme Monarch,  Cassidy, Otuwarikpo, Others To Correctional Centre

by Our Correspondent

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt and presided over by Justice Sika Henry Apriok has remanded Eze Ekpeye Logbo III, Eze Dr. Amb. Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo, Nye Udu Upata, Eze Felix Nene Otuwarikpo, Ph.D, the suspended Eze Igbu Akoh II, Eze Cassidy W. O. Ikegbidi and over sixty other suspects to Port Harcourt maximum correctional centre.

Some of the suspects were charged for alleged murder of late Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of Ahoada East local Government area SP Bako Angbashime.

The defendants were charged with different charges as regard to their alleged various offences.

Our Correspondent reports that the defendants were charged with different charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, cultism, robbery, kidnapping, among others.

When the case was mentioned, counsel to the first and other defendants, urged the honourable court to grant bail to the defendants.

However, the acting Officer in charge of   Legal Department, Rivers Police Command and Prosecuting Counsel, SP Enyiyepere Sikpi, opposed to the bail, noting that the nature of the charges is too grievous for such oral application.

In his ruling, the trial judge, Justice Sika  Henry Apirioku ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to November, 21st, 2023 for plea and bail consideration

Meanwhile speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, the acting O C Legal and pyrosecuting Counsel, SP Enyiyepere Sikpi, explained that the defendants can not be bailed at the first appearance in court due to the gravity of the charge preferred.

He further said he opposed to the oral application that such charge needs a proper application for bail.

While one of the counsel to the defendants, Sir Uchechukwu Igbegiri stated that at the next adjourned date, a proper bail application will be moved due to the nature of the charges.

Recall that late DPO of Ahoada East Local Government Area, SP Bako Agbashim was brutally murdered by a gang of notorious Iceland cultists, led by one Gift David Okpara, aka 2Baba on September 8th, 2023.

Though, investigation by our Correspondent revealed that the list given to journalists was a conservative one that contains names of some persons that had been released from police detention, especially like Eze Felix Nene Otuwarikpo, Ph.d, Nye Udu Upata, Phenihas Julius and others.
