NDDC, Nigerian Navy Commission New Naval Base in Ayakoro, Bayelsa State

In a major boost to maritime security and regional development, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commissioned a new Naval Base in Ayakoro, Bayelsa State. The project, executed in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, marks a significant stride in efforts to strengthen security, infrastructure, and partnerships for sustainable peace in the Niger Delta.
The ceremony, attended by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, and the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, highlighted the synergy between government institutions and local communities in advancing national security and development goals.
“This remarkable achievement stands as a powerful testament to our unwavering commitment at the NDDC to enhancing security, advancing infrastructure, and deepening partnerships for lasting peace and sustainable development across the region,” Dr. Ogbuku said during the event.
He commended the people of Ayakoro community for their patriotic gesture in donating several hectares of land for the establishment of a future Navy School — an initiative that underscores the community’s commitment to national progress.
The newly commissioned facilities include:✅ A fully furnished Administrative Block✅ A fully furnished Accommodation Block✅ A fully equipped 40-man House Boat supported by two 100kva Generators✅ Two Gun Boats powered by twin 200Hp Yamaha engines each✅ A newly built Operational Floating Jetty✅ A Toyota Hilux Vehicle for operational mobility✅ 60kva Solar Inverters installed in the Administrative and Accommodation blocks, and a 30kva Solar backup system for the house boat
According to Dr. Ogbuku, the new base represents a strategic boost to maritime security, ensuring safer waterways and promoting socio-economic growth across the Niger Delta. “It will serve as both a security hub and a catalyst for community development,” he added.
He further praised the Nigerian Navy for its unwavering dedication to protecting Nigeria’s waterways and commended the people of Ayakoro for their cooperation and foresight.
“At NDDC, we remain steadfast in our resolve to build, empower, and secure the Niger Delta — one project, one community, one partnership at a time,” Dr. Ogbuku affirmed.
