Nigerian Navy provides free medical services to over 1,000 residents in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy Outpost Koluama, on Thursday provided free medical services to over 1,000 residents of Koluama II Community, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
Cdr Stephen Agwai, Commanding Officer, Naval Outpost Koluama II, disclosed this during the exercise in Koluama II, saying that the essence was to promote cooperation with the host community.
Tarakirivoice reports that the residents were provided with free medical checkups, consultation, health education, distribution of insecticide treated nets and , free medication among others.
Agwai said that the exercise would impact positivity on the community and further help in reducing its health challenges.
The Commanding Officer said that the outreach was part of the Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility to the people, as a host community.
According to him, today we are extending a helping hand to our fellow citizens who have accommodated Nigeria Navy to ensure it achieves her constitutional role.
“As we are all aware, health is wealth and a person who has good physical health is likely to have bodily functions with good working abilities.
“We must bear in mind that regular exercise, balanced nutrition and adequate rest all contributes to good health.
“Therefore, it is our responsibilities as parents, leaders, guardians and administrators to make deliberate efforts in living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to show examples to our people,” he said
Agwai said that the Navy and indeed NOP KOLUAMA II, recognised the pivotal role that health played in national development and well-being.
“Through initiatives like today’s Medical Rhapsody, we aim to promote health awareness and foster partnerships with local healthcare providers for peaceful co-existence.
“Through our non-kinetic line of operations and civil-military relations, the Nigerian Navy through the initiative of the Chief of Naval Staff and indeed NOP KOLUAMA II have come here today with a mission to contribute to your medical well-being and support your healthy living.
“We bring with us healthcare services such as free medical consultations, medications, insecticide treated mosquito nets and examination of vital signs,” he said.
According to him, its mission extends beyond the tangible as it will also share with them important tips to healthy living and benefits of regular exercises and balanced nutrition to health and general well-being.
On his part, Chief Naigu Nitabi, Chairman, Community Development Committee Koluama I community, commended the Nigerian Navy for the free medical services brought to their community.
According to him, the Nigerian Navy has been very kind to them from the onset and they are appreciating the Navy for the kind gesture and seeing the health need of the people.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Eunice Timipa, commented the Navy for choosing their community for the free medical services.
Timipa said that she was tested and administered free medication, adding that she never knew she had high blood pressure and low sugar level.
