“Night of Terror in Jos: Fresh Killings Expose Federal Government’s Failing Security Promise”

Tragedy struck once more in Plateau State as unknown gunmen launched a deadly late-night assault on Nyango Gyel in Jos South Local Government Area, leaving three people dead and residents in renewed fear.
According to eyewitnesses and community sources, the attackers stormed the quiet community at about 10:40 pm on Friday, opening fire indiscriminately before disappearing into the darkness. The sudden burst of gunfire sent panic across the area, as helpless residents scrambled for safety.
Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwong, Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, described the attack as “one too many,” condemning the continued targeting of innocent civilians.
“This cycle of attacks on our rural communities must stop. We call on security agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Tengwong said, expressing frustration over the recurring violence.
He further urged residents across Jos South, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas to heighten vigilance, warning that rural communities remain vulnerable to such coordinated assaults.
The latest killings come amid rising tension in the region, despite earlier assurances by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who had vowed that the wave of attacks would not continue unchecked. The governor had directed security agencies to intensify operations and track down those responsible for the recent bloodshed.
However, Friday night’s attack has once again raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of security interventions, as communities continue to bear the brunt of repeated violence.
Residents say fear now grips the area, with many questioning how long the cycle of killings will persist before decisive action brings lasting peace.
