NiMet forecasts sunshine, haze, thunderstorms across Nigeria from Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted sunshine and haziness across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, predicted sunny skies with hazy conditions over the northern regions throughout the forecast period on Monday.

The agency also anticipated hazy skies with patches of clouds over the North-Central regions, with chances of rain showers in parts of Nasarawa, FCT, Kogi, and Benue States during the afternoon and evening.

For the inland and coastal regions of the South, NiMet predicted a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine.

‘Morning thunderstorms are expected in parts of Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

“Thunderstorms are also likely later in the day in parts of Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States.”

On Tuesday, NiMet expects similar conditions in the northern regions, with sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere.

“The North-Central regions will likely experience hazy skies with some cloud coverage, and rain showers may occur in parts of Kwara, Niger, Kogi, and Benue States in the afternoon.

“In the southern regions, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected. Thunderstorms are forecasted over various southern states later in the day, similar to Monday’s forecast.”

For Wednesday, NiMet predicted slight dust haze over the northern region, with sunny skies and hazy conditions over most parts of the North-Central. Kogi, Benue, and Kwara States are expected to experience some cloud coverage.

“In the inland and coastal regions, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected, with thunderstorms in parts of Delta, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States during the afternoon and evening.”

NiMet urged the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles were suspended in the air.

It advised people with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, to be cautious.

The agency also warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and urged the public to follow safety advisories from relevant authorities.

“Airline operators have been advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.

“Residents are encouraged to stay informed through weather updates on NiMet’s official website at www.nimet.gov.ng.”
