In his daily devotional message, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, delivered a sobering warning on the dangers of rebellion and disobedience to spiritual authority, drawing lessons from the biblical story of Korah’s uprising against Moses.
Pastor Adeboye described the passage as “a sad story with many important lessons,” emphasizing that the rebellion led by Korah, Dathan, and Abiram resulted in the tragic death of thousands who joined them in defying God’s chosen leader. “Just one man started a rebellion that killed about fifteen thousand people. Rebellion is deadly!” he wrote.
According to the cleric, the disaster could have been avoided if those approached by Korah had refused to join his insurrection. “They should have discouraged him from being rebellious and counselled him to honour Moses,” he noted, warning that while God may speak to anyone, He does not call everyone to lead His people.
Pastor Adeboye cautioned that many modern-day Christians fall into the same error as Korah by challenging or disregarding the spiritual hierarchy God has established in His church. He cited the example of King Uzziah, who became leprous after assuming a priestly role that God had not ordained for him (2 Chronicles 26:16–21).
“We live in a generation where some young people think they have enough revelation from God’s word to speak against the spiritual elders in the church,” Adeboye lamented. “When some of them have a large social media following, they begin to think that they have attained a notable spiritual height and can say anything they like to anyone. Popularity and social media followership are, however, not the same as spiritual authority.”
He urged Christians to steer clear of rebellious individuals and to repent from any act of disrespect or insubordination toward spiritual leaders. “Beloved, if there are rebels around you, run far away from them so that you do not partake in their judgement,” he warned. “Rebellion is dangerous, and it never profits anyone.”
