Prince Nosa Urges Delta Government to Partner NOVENA University for Vigilante Training

By Passman Akpos

A security advocate, Prince Nosa, popularly known as Mr. Hush, has commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his recent strides in improving security across the state. He, however, called for a strategic partnership between the Delta State Government and Novena University to enhance the capacity of local vigilante groups through structured academic training.

In a statement, Prince Nosa proposed that the Department of Intelligence and Security Studies at Novena University could design a three-month specialized programme for members of community-based vigilante groups. The training, he suggested, should cover key areas such as:

1. Community Policing

2. Intelligence Gathering

3. Surveillance Systems

4. Crime Investigation

5. Crime Scene Management

6. Criminal Psychology

7. Psycho-Terrorism

According to him, “These courses already exist in the department with seasoned lecturers who possess both academic and field experience.”

Reflecting on his time as a student at the institution, Prince Nosa noted that the department boasts of an impressive faculty lineup — including a retired U.S. Marine, a retired Navy Commodore with international training, a lawyer, a psychologist, a criminologist, and professors in global security studies such as Prof. Igun, a former Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University.

He further emphasized that the department has produced graduates now serving in top national and international security agencies including the DSS and EFCC.

“The state must take proactive steps to train and equip its local security personnel for optimal performance,” he said. “Every crime recorded in the state occurs in a community. A safer community means a safer state.

Prince Nosa also commended human rights activist and security volunteer, Harrison Gwamnishu, for his ongoing work with local vigilante teams, urging that such groups be given the opportunity to receive formal training and professional development.

He concluded by urging the Oborevwori administration to consider this collaboration as part of its broader effort to ensure peace, safety, and sustainable security across Delta State.
