Some persons doing business at the popular Tombia roundabout in Yenagoa has commended the governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, for developing the area.
The respondents poured encomium on the Governor for according to them turning the area to a tourist site in just a short term he has spent in office.
Speaking to Tarakirivoice, they said that the developmental stride in the area has brought a drastic reduction in crimes and criminality, emphasizing that criminals who once used the area as their hideout to perpetrate lots of heinous crimes have found it difficult to operate.
The respondents, Matthew Timi, Ezekiel Gabriel, Sandra Owei, said though they still experience “some little criminal activities here and there but it is safer compare to before” because according to them anybody can walk around during the day till 8pm in the evening without fear of harassment.
Ezekiel Gabriel, who decried the nonchalant attitude of the police when a criminal suspect is handed them, noted that criminal suspects should be tried and dealt with according to the law and not given bail the next day after the arrest.
He said, “The place is beautiful. When you are coming into the state you will know that you’re coming into a state.
“We are just considering the traders because the criminals are still disturbing them (traders). The issue is when a criminal is caught and given to police, they (police) will just release the criminal. So people are scared to report criminals to the police because he (suspect) will come back and hunt after you.
“So in terms of criminality, it is still existing but not as before. It has been minimized but not stopped,” he added.
He appealed to the Government to mount a security post in the area to make the place safer.
