“Sagbama Braces For Ancient Ijaw Cleansing Ritual – Movement, Meat, And Fish Restricted!”

Sagbama, Bayelsa State – Tension and anticipation are rising in Sagbama as the Ijaw community prepares for its annual traditional Community Cleansing ritual scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Community leaders have issued strict directives for the sacred day:
No fresh fish or meat is allowed in the town.
No blood, whether from fish or animals, should touch the land.
Movement restrictions will be enforced from early evening.
This ancient ritual, deeply rooted in Ijaw culture, is believed to bring prosperity and blessings to the land. Leaders emphasized that these practices should be respected by all residents and Christians, reminding the public of the biblical principle of “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.”
The event is expected to attract thousands, and authorities are calling on visitors and residents to comply fully with the community’s rules to avoid spiritual and social repercussions.
