Sen. Seriake Dickson Chairs NASS Joint Committee Session on Electoral Reforms

Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa State in the National Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral and constitutional frameworks.
In a statement released on Thursday, Senator Dickson announced that he participated in a retreat of the National Assembly’s Joint Committee on Electoral Matters, where lawmakers deliberated on proposed amendments to the Electoral Act.
“Today, I attended a retreat of the NASS Joint Committee on Electoral Matters to fine-tune amendments to the Electoral Act. We considered a number of proposals for reforms, and I was honoured to have been asked to preside over the joint meeting, which I did,” the senator said.
According to Dickson, the retreat provided an opportunity for members of both chambers to review and harmonize key proposals aimed at improving the transparency, efficiency, and credibility of Nigeria’s elections.
The former Bayelsa State governor further revealed that he will also be participating in the Constitution Review Committee as a representative of Bayelsa, adding that efforts are underway to ensure that both the electoral reforms and the constitution amendment processes are completed promptly.
“Tomorrow, I will also be participating as a member of the Constitution Review Committee, representing Bayelsa. We will do our best to ensure that the electoral reforms and the constitution amendment review process are concluded in good time,” he stated.
Senator Dickson, who chairs several legislative initiatives focused on governance and institutional reform, emphasized the importance of timely and inclusive reform processes to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
