The Senate, on Wednesday, commenced the screening and confirmation process for the newly nominated Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and Chief of Defence Intelligence, as requested by President Bola Tinubu following the announcement of their appointments a few days ago.
Speaking after the session, Senator HSD noted that the screening, which included an extensive interactive closed-door segment, provided a useful opportunity to assess the competence and vision of the nation’s top military leadership.
He described the nominees as “very qualified and experienced,” adding that their backgrounds and track records reflect the depth of expertise required to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
Senator HSD, however, emphasized the need for full national support and stronger coordination among the defence hierarchy to effectively tackle the country’s security challenges.
> “We only hope for fuller support for them and urge them to be properly coordinated, nationalistic, and patriotic in the discharge of their duties, knowing that their loyalty is to the nation and the Constitution,” he said.
The lawmaker concluded by wishing the new defence leadership well as they prepare to assume office and steer the Armed Forces toward greater professionalism and national unity.
