Senator Osita Izunaso Secures Freedom for 20 Inmates, Provides Medical Support to Over 200 Others in Imo Correctional Facility

The lawmaker representing Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Osita Izunaso (OFR, NPOM), has continued his humanitarian outreach with a major intervention at the Imo State Correctional Service.
Yesterday, Senator Izunaso facilitated the release of 20 inmates who were found to have demonstrated good conduct and positive behavior during their time in custody. Following their release, a medical outreach team moved into action, conducting health tests on over 200 inmates within the facility.
According to the senator, the initiative was aimed at promoting rehabilitation and ensuring that inmates receive adequate healthcare as part of their reintegration process. “After I bailed 20 inmates that were found of good conduct and behavior in the Imo State Correctional Service, the medical team swiftly went into action where tests were run on over 200 inmates, and medications were given to them,” he said.
Senator Izunaso also disclosed that his team donated a large stock of medications to the Correctional Service’s medical department to enable continued treatment and support for inmates who require ongoing care.
“We wish the freed inmates a better life in society,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to social justice, rehabilitation, and humane correctional reforms.
The gesture has been widely commended by observers as a compassionate move towards restorative justice and an example of leadership with empathy.
