“Shock in Bayelsa: Deputy Governor Dies Suddenly, Governor Declares 3 Days of Mourning”

Yenagoa – The Bayelsa State Government has announced with profound shock the sudden passing of the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, Ph.D. He died on Thursday, December 11, at the age of 60.
According to the official statement, the Deputy Governor was actively performing his official duties earlier in the day before collapsing while en route to a scheduled meeting at his office. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo was a distinguished public servant who had served Bayelsa State in multiple capacities. His career included tenures as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, and Deputy Governor since 2020.
Governor Douye Diri, speaking on behalf of the government and people of Bayelsa, described the loss as “painful” and extended heartfelt condolences to the Deputy Governor’s wife, Her Excellency Barr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, their children, and the entire Ewhrudjakpo family. Condolences were also extended to the Ofoni Federated Community, former Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, and all citizens of the state.
In honor of the late Deputy Governor, Governor Diri has declared three days of official mourning beginning Friday, December 12, 2025. All state flags are to fly at half-mast during this period.
“May his gentle soul rest in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement concluded, praying for divine comfort and strength for his family and the people of Bayelsa State.
